Meetings 2012

All meetings are held in the Village Hall Crossford. The hall is on the North side of the road just opposite The Pitfirrane Arms Hotel.   Postcode KY12 8NJ

Meetings of the Society are held on the dates listed below. Meetings are open to anyone interested in the cultivation of begonias.

Our first meeting of the year will take place on Sunday 22nd January 

Anyone interested in growing begonias will be made very welcome at our meetings

Meetings 2012

January 22nd	Ronnie Welsh with his first ever presentation on begonias showed that while new at talking in public was certainly not new at growing begonias. He talked firstly about taking all sorts of cuttings then through the winter and the starting up and on to flowering and setting up on the show bench. This was an excellent presentation and we look forward to hearing Ronnie again in the future. Many thanks again Ronnie
February 18th	Andy started with. growing single stem pot plants  which he said initially was no different from growing plants for cut blooms. It was only after securing the bud when the plant was not stopped and allowed to grow three blooms on the main stem before stopping., that the difference arose. Of course these plants require to be properly staked, tied in and the blooms supported. He then went on to multi-stem pots and explained the differences allowing at least two stems from the tuber and allowing side shoots to grow and flower. He did emphasise that big pots required more room and more work with staking and tying. This was another excellent talk from Andy.
